Brace Yourself: New Lumia Phones Are Coming

It’s been a while since Nokia became a part of the Microsoft family. People were skeptical when the Windows Phones hit the scene but their performance since then has silenced many a critic/Android junkie/iPhone addict. It seems like the company has a lot more to offer, and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

New Recruits

Coming our way soon will be three brand new mid-tier Windows Phone devices. Berlin was host to the unboxing event that showed off the three new phones. Tech enthusiasts couldn’t be happier about the announcement and can’t wait to get their hands on the sets so that they can start tinkering away.

The Lumia 830 is going to be a part of the “affordable flagship” that the company is hoping to make more popular. It’s a photo-focused device that’s part of the slimline. And for people who need an Android kick to their Windows Phone experience, the company has also released a dual SIM Lumia 730 (which has an LTE sibling called Lumia 735). The Lumia 730 is going to tickle the fancy of all selfie enthusiasts for sure.

Market Expansion

This is a very obvious move by Microsoft to actually branch out and get a hold of a larger market share. So far powerful Lumia phones have managed to captivate a fairly decent audience. What was missing was a mid-tier takeover which seems to be coming now. While the platform hasn’t really managed to hit any of the right notes in the US, it has managed substantial growth in some EU markets. With this move it is possible that the company will up the ante on its current share and truly find its place.

Lumia 830: Specs & Details

When it comes to looks the Lumia 930 is the closest comparison that we have for the Lumia 830. Of course the 20 megapixel PureView lens is out and replaced with a 10 megapixel PureView camera. It has a 5-inch display and runs a 1.2GHZ quad core Snapdragon chipset. You can grab it in several candy colours that are now easily identified with Microsoft’s style. The phone will land in your hands with the Denim update in tow.

But the real kicker with this Lumia is the camera. There are a range of features that can keep a user engaged for days, especially if they are interested in photography. From tinkering with the exposure to adjusting the snap speed, there’s a whole lot this phone can let you do. It has been priced at €330 and will be released within this month.

Lumia 730 & 735

Where the 830 is a camera intensive phone, the Lumia 730, and its dual SIM brother 735, is a person intensive phone i.e., it’s all about the selfies. With a 5MP camera on the front you can snap away and create selfie history. Generally the front facing camera on most phones isn’t equipped to take superb shots, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with this set. The phone offers a wide angle view at the front so you can take that Oscar styled selfie with all your friends or family.

Other than that the phone has a 4.7 inch screen and runs on 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset. It’s also fitted with a 6.7MP camera at the back in case you get tired of selfies or just need to take regular pictures. The phone is also fitted with 1GB RAM. While the Lumia 730 is priced at €199, the 735 will cost around €219.

With these two new sets Microsoft hopes to become a little more popular and attract a larger market share. Time will tell how useful these sets will be in achieving that goal.
